Two people died on Tuesday while ten others passengers aboard a bus sustained injuries during an accident that occurred along the Nairobi- Mombasa highway.
According to police reports, a Mombasa bound bus belonging to Daima Connections Sacco collided head on with a trailer that was headed to Nairobi at Migingo area some five kilometres from Mtito-Andei town
County police commander Joseph Ole Naipeyan said the driver of the bus and a male passenger died on the spot. The bus had 49 passengers when the accident occurred at around 5.30 am.
He said the driver of the trailer escaped unhurt and fled immediately after the accident.
“The driver of the trailer was joining the main highway from the parking when he collided head on with the bus. He failed to maintain the required distance,” said Naipeyan.
The injured were rushed to Mtito-Andei sub county hospital while the bodies were taken to Makindu sub county hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
The vehicles were towed to Mtito-Andei police station.
