Two Injured in Kilifi Accident

Two people were critically injured Monday evening after the car they were driving was involved in a slight head-on collision with a truck ferrying milk at a notorious black spot area in Mbogolo, along the Mombasa-Kilifi highway.

The injured are said to be a father and son who allegedly drove the car on the opposite lane and hit the truck.

The truck driver Dickson Korir and his loader who escaped with only minor injuries told the media that they could have all perished in the accident, had he not swerved off the road. The truck overturned after Korir drove off the road.

“I took quick action to swerve off the road and overturned to avoid a total head on collision which could have caused the death for all of us. The car hit the truck on my side,” he said.

Confirming the incident, Kilifi County police commander Stephen Matu said the injured were rushed to Kilifi county referral hospital in a critical condition.

He said the two vehicles were towed to Kilifi poice station, where the truck driver and his turn boy also recorded statements.

Hospital sources told the press Tuesday that the injured have been responding well to treatment.
