Marsabit town residents woke up on Thursday to sad news of the murder of two herdsmen by suspected bandits in Qilta Korma location in Saku Constituency on Wednesday night.
The Marsabit Central Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), Patrick Muriira said that the herders were shot dead at Gar Qasa grazing area at around 1am.
Muriira told KNA that the attackers were armed with an AK 47 rifle, adding that the motive of the killing was unknown.
“Investigations have started in earnest to establish the motive and bring the culprits to book,” the DCC said.
He added that the deceased identified as Sora Jillo and Abdub Hagano were aged 35 and 65 years respectively, adding their bodies were removed to Marsabit county referral hospital mortuary.
The Marsabit County Police Commander (CPC), Steve Oloo said preliminary investigations indicate that the two were killed in cold blood as they slept by the attackers who did not steal any livestock or property from them.
The CPC called for calm, saying police would ensure that those behind the heinous act are arrested and prosecuted.
The incident comes barely a week after the killing of 11 people in Forole in neighbouring Marsabit North sub-county.
