Two people died on the spot while another two were rushed to hospital for treatment after a lorry and a police vehicle were involved in an accident along Malaba-Bungoma road on Wednesday evening.
Confirming the incident, Busia County Police Commander John Nyoike said the accident involved a GK vehicle registration number GKB 990 T from Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit Teso North and trailer registration number KCH 842C.
Nyoike stated that the GK vehicle was moving from Malaba to Amagoro while the trailer was overlapping from the opposite side.
“On reaching on the point of the incident, the vehicles collided head-on and as a result of the impact both drivers lost their lives,” he said.
He added that two other people were injured and were rushed to Bungoma County Referral hospital for treatment.
The Police boss pointed out that Bungoma- Malaba road was a busy road and there are many trucks using it hence the need to drive more carefully.
“So drivers using the road should observe traffic rules by ensuring the road is clear before they overtake,” he said.
The two bodies have since been moved to Kocholia Sub County hospital mortuary.
