Police in Homa-Bay have arrested two boda boda operators at Rodi Kopany in Kalanya Kanyango location for cohabiting and defiling schools girls aged between 13 and 17 years.
The two suspects who had rented houses and turned the minors into their wives, were arrested within Rodi Kopany Trading center after the area administrator got a tip-off from members of the public.
One of the suspects, a boda boda rider within the centre identified as Victor Odhiambo, aged 23, was cohabiting with two KCPE candidates aged 15 and 17 who lived with him as co-wives in a single-room tin structure.
According to Kalanya Kanyango chief Fredrick Onyango, the rider is suspected to have eloped with the first girl from her home village in Gem in Rangwe constituency and they have since been staying together as a couple.
Chief Onyango said that on Sunday night they received information from the area village elder that another boda boda rider identified as Tyson Okoth Otieno, aged 28, who hails from Muche village in Kalanya Kanyago location, also eloped with a 14-year-old KCPE candidate and has been defiling her at his rental house within the centre.
Confirming the incident to KNA, the Children’s Officer in charge of Homa Bay and Rangwe sub counties Jospeh Otieno said the minors have already been taken to hospital for treatment and assessment.
Otieno added that the suspects are being held at Homa-Bay police station awaiting to be arraigned in court.
