Turkana county residents have been urged to relocate to higher grounds as heavy rains are expected to pound the county as from Wednesday, November 20.
County Director Meteorological Services, Francis Muinda, said the County will experience above normal rains starting this week.
“Last month we experienced floods that caused destruction of property and we expect above normal rains this week as well,” said Muinda.
Three people also lost their lives last month due to floods. However, residents are complaining that they have not been facilitated to relocate.
“We do not have social amenities including health care and water supply in areas where we are being directed to relocate to,” said Jane Akiru.
Last week, residents of Napetet took it upon themselves to construct gabions along river Kawalase after the County Government failed to honour its promise of erecting gabions along the river.
