Turkana County forms soccer team 

Turkana County Directorate of Revenue has formed a soccer team christened Ushuru FC expected to take part in the Football Kenya Federation league soon.

Speaking during a one-day tournament between clerks and officers of the directorate on the Prisons grounds soccer pitch in Lodwar, the Chief Officer of Finance, Abraham Losinyen, said the exercise also served as a staff team-building activity for the revenue team.

While applauding the revenue clerks for beating the revenue officers 3-1, Losinyen said that sports will be used to sensitize the community on matters revenue payment to enhance compliance through the rallying call, “Tulipe Ushuru, Tujenge Kaunti yetu”.

The Chief Officer challenged other County Departments to embrace sports by forming rival teams to compete against each other as a way of cultivating workplace cohesion and improving relations between staff.

On matters revenue collection, Losinyen said his department had introduced staff identification cards and branded reflector jackets to mitigate against unscrupulous persons taking advantage of the unsuspecting locals by pretending to be revenue clerks or officers.

Director of Revenue, Shemmy Ebulon, added that the tournament was part of appreciation to the County Revenue team for surpassing the collection targets in the first quarter of the current financial year.

Turkana County Attorney, Erastus Ethekon, Lokorikeju Titus, Deputy Director, Culture, Paul Jalinga, Principal Administrator, graced the occasion.
