President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party has intervened to solve leadership stalemate at the Laikipia County Assembly.
Mid last month, Majority Leader Peter Thomi of Githiga ward was ousted and replaced with his Igwamiti ward counterpart Joseph Kirugu.
The changes also saw Deputy Majority Leader Mutahi Muritu (Tigithi Ward) replaced by his Nanyuki Town Ward counterpart Veronica Ikunywa.
The changes were communicated by Speaker Patrick Waigwa, after he received minutes of a meeting, chaired by Assembly Whip who is also Segera Ward Representative Charubo Kaparo.
The Assembly further removed Thomi from the County Assembly Public Service Board together with Minority Leader and Sosian ward Rep Jacob Edom who were replaced by Umande Ward MCA Daniel Mugweru and nominated MCA Catherine Kibue respectively.
However, Jubilee Party Director of Legal Affairs, Franklin Mwendani speaking to the press at the precincts of Laikipia County Assembly in Nanyuki town stated that the party was addressing the matter and members had no reason to be aggrieved.
Mwendani said that after the MCAs are back from recess, the party will have another sitting to deliberate how members will share the county assembly House committees.
