Truck driver perishes in a grisly road accident

A truck driver perished in a grisly road accident, Tuesday when he allegedly lost control and rammed into a two storey building in Homa Bay town.
Edwin Otieno, 37, died along the Homa Bay-Rongo road in what is suspected to have been break failure by his vehicle.
According to witnesses,the driver who was alone in the vehicle was traveling from Sukari Industries in Ndhiwa Sub County at 3 am.
He was scheduled to collect sugar cane in Chemelil in Kisumu County when he experienced difficulties in steering his truck.
Confirming the incident to KNA,Homa Bay Sub County Police Commander, Sammy Koskey said preliminary investigation has revealed that the deceased had engaged free gear on his truck.
“Primary examinations on the wrecked vehicle indicated that the driver was trying to change to another gear as he approached Homa Bay town center. He lost control during the transition,” the officer said.
Koskey appealed to drivers not to drive beyond the speed limits and be careful when on the road especially at night.
The body of the driver was taken to Homa Bay County Referral hospital mortuary.
