Traders in Emali town, Makueni County, are set to benefit from a new ultra-modern market that will be completed before the end of this month.
Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. said on Wednesday that the market will boost trade in the fastest-growing Emali Township along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway.
Speaking during an inspection tour of the town, Kilonzo noted that the construction of the market will be completed in three weeks’ time.
He said his administration will ensure the market has a proper drainage system to protect the storm water from affecting the town during rainy seasons.
The modern market will host two open-air market blocks with a capacity to host 500 vendors, 30 wholesale stalls, 96 retail stalls, and a 240,000-litre water harvesting storage system.
The market will also have an administration block with an ICT centre fitted with surveillance systems and WIFI to support access to e-government services and e-commerce.
It will have a friendly ablution block for PWD, bathrooms, and a crèche to provide baby care services to lactating mothers.
Kilonzo was accompanied by the Deputy Governor, Lucy Mulili.
