Traders at Koyonzo market in Matungu Sub-County, Kakamega County today stayed away from the market as a sign of complying with the measures that have been put in place by the government to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
The Deputy County Commissioner Mr. Jacob Awuor said that today was a main market day at Koyonzo which would have attracted a large crowd and a few of the traders who tried to access the market were kept away by the security agents.
Hundreds of traders from different parts of the county turn up to sell their wares at the centre on a normal market day which is situated along the Mayoni-Busia road.
Mr. Awuor asked the residents to comply with the instructions given by the Ministry of Health to prevent the spread of the virus in the area and the country as a whole.
He reminded the residents that adhering to the measures as advised by the Ministry of Health was for their own good and the community as a whole
An on the spot check by KNA established that most of the shops at Matungu market have placed water and soap for use by buyers visiting the shops. “Customers have to wash their hands before l serve them”, said one of the traders who operates a retail shop.
Meanwhile traders have now stocked water containers fixed with taps in high quantities to meet the demand. Some of the traders are hawking liquid soap in one litre bottles.
