Three suspects have been arrested in Mumbuni of Machakos County and a vehicle impounded with Counterfeit liquor worth Sh3.4 million.

According to Machakos Deputy County Commissioner, David Rotich, the counterfeit liquor was found at a residential house in Mumbuni after a tip-off from the public and quick response from the Machakos joint security team.

The DCC, while speaking to the press at the County Commander’s Office, disclosed that they were able to seize 466 boxes of Trace alcohol and 517 boxes of Super brand counterfeit alcohol from the suspects worth Sh.3.4 million.

“Police officers, acting on a tip-off from members of the public, went to Mumbuni area, arrested three suspects and confiscated two different brands of counterfeit liquor,” said Rotich.

He commended the various agencies, including Nacada, Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBs) and Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA). Who are aiding in the investigations and verification of the counterfeit liquor.

Machakos County Police Commander, Patrick Lobolia, credited the community for their good relations with the police, that led to the confiscation of the counterfeit liquor in Mumbuni.

Lobolia said the increase of Police patrol in Machakos town has caused criminals to hide their illegal activities in the villages and noted that the police are vigilant and will flash them out from their hideouts.

He sent a stern warning to the landlords and house owners in Machakos, to ensure they vet their tenants, before renting their houses to criminals or risk facing arrest.

“Those who rent out their houses or apartments, should ensure they vet their tenants, to know who they are and where they work or they will get arrested,” warned Lobolia.

The Police Commander said the three suspects are in custody awaiting completion of investigation and arraignment in court.
