Three suspects were arrested by the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) Rangers as they transported sandalwood estimated at Sh 3.2 million along the Sultan Hamud-Kasikeu Road in Mukaa Sub-County on Tuesday evening.
Among those arrested were Kioko Mbolu, Francis Mbolu and Isaac Wambua (Driver), after members of the public tipped KWS rangers at Kiboko who were on patrol.
During the incident, the rangers found the sandalwood concealed in eleven sacks and hidden in a Toyota Hilux Vehicle registration Number KBV 342C which was also impounded and taken to Sultan Hamud Police Station.
“The KWS Officers searched the vehicle and found some forest products in 11 sacks of unknown kilograms being transported illegally,” said the Makueni County Police Commander, Mr Joseph Ole Naipeyan, while speaking to KNA on telephone on Wednesday.
The suspects who are being held at the Sultan Hamud Police Station, will be arraigned in court today where they will be charged with being in possession of forest products illegally.
