Three hospitalized after attack by a wild animal in Murarandia, Murang’a

Three people from Murang’a County are receiving treatment at Muriranjas Sub-county Hospital with head, face and hand injuries, after they were separately attacked by an unidentified wild animal, yesterday.

Four-year-old, Sean Njuguna, was in the company of his friends when he was attacked, sustaining injuries to his face, chin and hands, while Antony Fundi, a grade  Six(6) learner, was attacked on his way to school.

The other victim 50-year-old Samuel Mwangi, sustained serious injuries, but managed to subdue and kill the animal. The three victims are residents of Gatara and Maganjo villages in Murarandia, Kiharu Constituency.

“This animal is either a fox or a jackal, it attacked me forcing me to defend myself even though I was already wounded,” Mwangi said, adding that there had been rumors of a hyena wandering in the area, but it turned out to be a different animal.

The area residents have called upon Kenya Wildlife Service officials to promptly investigate the incident and identify whether the wild animal lone or part of a pack, saying they are still living in fear and are concerned for the safety of their children.
