Police  in  Voi sub-county on Thursday night recovered property worth thousands of shillings after a midnight sting operation led to the arrest of three notorious burglars suspected to be behind a series of break-ins in business and residential houses.

A woman whom police say is the mastermind of these thefts escaped after she evaded the police dragnet.

Speaking at Voi Police Station on Friday, the County Police Commander, Saidi Kiprotich said officers from Voi Police Station were following leads after reports of mysterious break-ins in homes and business especially at night when the curfew was being enforced.

He added that intelligence reports led police to a house in Sofia village where a suspected criminal from Mombasa County was hiding.

After interrogation, the suspect led the police to another house in Tanzania village where assorted goods were hidden and two more suspects were arrested as they tried to flee.

“We are pursuing the woman whom we suspect is the mastermind behind these thefts. We have all details about her. It’s just a matter of time before we have her,” he said.

Amongst  the goods recovered include gas cylinders, meat-roasting grills, flat-screens TVs, suitcases with clothes, a bicycle, music systems, alcoholic drinks and woofers.

Saidi urged members of public whose houses have been broken into to report to the police station for verification of their property.

“People should come with ownership documents to check if they can find whatever they lost,” he added.
