Three out of the six bodies of those who died after their boat capsized in Lake Victoria on Friday night have been retrieved.
According to Bunyala Sub County Police Commander Peterson Nyakundi, the bodies were recovered by a team of divers in collaboration with Kenya Coast Guard Services Officers.
“The team recovered bodies of a child aged nine years, Evans Okumu, owner of the boat and a woman from the neighbouring country of Uganda.
Nyakundi added that the team which is using five motor boats is determined to search for the three other remaining bodies. He added that the bodies have been moved to Port Victoria hospital mortuary awaiting post mortem examination.
According to Benedict Omena Kanga, one of the local residents who are assisting in the search of the bodies, the already retrieved bodies will not be interred until the remaining others are found.
“A section of the survivors of the fateful incident must also hang around so that the retrieval process can be easy according to our culture,” he said.
Kanga added that the vessel that caused the accident should also remain at the shore of the Lake contrary to being taken away and kept by the Kenya Coast Guard Services officers at their camp.
The six lost their lives on Friday night after a strong wind affected their boat while seven others were rescued.
