Police in Trans Nzoia County have arrested three men who were found with 176 rounds of ammunition, three magazines, a Beretta and other electronic gadgets.
Speaking in his office, the County Police Commander (CPC), Ayub Ali Gitonga told KNA that police officers arrested the three men in Lavington estate in Kitale town on Tuesday following a tip off from members of the public.
The CPC said that they have been on the trail of suspects who stole the Beretta along with 176 rounds of ammunitions from a prominent business man who is a registered firearm holder, in Kitale town from his house on October 23.
“We managed to recover the ammunition and the Beretta with the help of the public who volunteered information to us,” he said.
According to police, the suspects might have been aided by a person who stayed with the family.
We are interrogating all workers in the home and other family members to ascertain how the firearm was stolen from the house.
He however, said that among the magazines recovered, three magazines did not belong to the businessman and police were investigating if there was a possibility that another gun was still in possession of the suspects.
Gitonga said that the suspects would be arraigned in court once investigations were completed and they would be charged accordingly.
