Thirty two betting machines confiscated, destroyed in Kilifi

Officials  from the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) impounded and burnt down 32 betting machines following a crackdown in some parts of Kilifi County.

The  machines were confiscated on Tuesday evening mainly in Mtwapa and Kilifi towns during an operation led by  the  BCLB  Director, Sabrina  Kanini.

Speaking  at  the Kilifi county commissioner’s offices during the destruction, Kanini said the exercise will continue until all the machines used in gambling are brought into the hands of the government and their operators taken to court.

She  said the operators who are mainly Kenyans and Nigerians attempted to block the truck that was ferrying the seized machines but added that prompt action by security personnel reinforced the operations.

The  County Commissioner (CC), Magu  Mutindika  said all security measures have been put in place to ensure all the seven Sub Counties are effectively rid of gambling which has been on the increase in the area.

He  urged members of the public to support the operations, saying gambling has been ruining the youth in the area.
