Dance and jubilation rent the air in Tharaka Nithi County Friday, immediately after Prof. Kithure Kindiki was sworn in as the third Deputy President of Kennya since the promulgation of the 2010 Constitution.
Occupying the streets of Marimanti and Mukothima towns, the residents said they could not believe that this would come to pass until they saw it live on televisions.
The jubilation culminated into prayers at Nyangumi Stadium in Marimanti led by Rev. Paul Kithuka Njagi of the Methodist Church in Kenya Marimanti.
Rev. Njagi said they planned to hold the prayers to dedicate their son to God and anoint him just as Samuel did to his son David.
“We are also praying to our son so he can be humble as he has shown it since he was in Sunday school, in his youth and even when he became a leader, we taught him to be humble and we believe the will work in harmony for the sake of Kenyans. We thank the President for the love he has shown the people of this county and we pray that he will work smoothly with him in serving the people of Kenya,” he said.
Ms Ann Mbathi, a resident of Marimanti town said they were grateful to the President for the chance to prove that bottom up was a real thing.
“We know we are a very minor community compared to others in the country and that maybe we didn’t deserve the seat but by God’s favour, we got it and this is the reason we came out to give thanks,” she said.
“In the bible, the tribe of Judah was told that they will never get a leader but through God’s grace, our saviour Jesus Christ came from that tribe,” said Ms Mbathi.
She added: “We pray that God will give the Deputy President wisdom and peace of mind so he can bring Kenyans together in unity and in terms of development”.
Another resident, Mr Patrick Mwenda said he has known Prof. Kindiki for his slogan; ‘With humility and obedience you can never go wrong’ and that is what he believed in.
He said the Deputy President’s achievement has been a culmination of his obedience, humility and discipline which have brought him this far.
“We know he is a hardworking and obedient man and he will work well with the President to get, just as the President said, what they have been missing for the last two years.
As young people, we are very optimistic because we know the DP as a hardworking man and he will work for Kenyans. As a community, we have prayed for and released him to Kenyans to work for them so they can get real development,” Mwenda said.
On his side, Mr David Majira from Mukothima said he was expectant that Prof. Kindiki would also consider the state of Tharaka Nithi County in terms of roads, markets and ensure that he upgrades them to make the residents feel the warmth of power.
