Deputy County Commissioner Stephen Wambura has directed chiefs to enforce measures against traders operating near schools and those operating beyond normal working hours.
Addressing the press after chairing a security meeting in his boardroom that brought together chiefs, assistant chiefs, and assistant county commissioners across the sub-county, the DCC called for concerted efforts to stamp out the vices once and for all.
Counterfeit alcohol is entering Kenya through porous borders, requiring collaboration with various authorities to ensure effective implementation of the Alcohol Act 2010. The DCC has announced the closure of bars near learning institutions and those operating past working hours, with four bars closed and several people arraigned in court.
“Public officers found operating bars will be fired and arraigned in court, noting that it’s against the law for them to engage in such unauthorized duties which was tantamount to conflict of interest,” the DCC said.
The speaker urges the public to report instances of chiefs failing to disclose illicit brews and drugs within their jurisdiction to the OCPD or him. The crackdown on illicit brews and drugs comes a few days after Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua revealed that he was ready to risk his position in the fight against illicit brews and substance abuse.
