The ministry of Education has elevated 10 Sub-County secondary schools in Isiolo County to County status.
Isiolo County Director of Education Dr. Hussein Koriyow said that previously parents were forced to take their children to counties schools in other regions for lack of the same locally.
Speaking to KNA in his office Thursday, Dr. Koriyow who is also the secretary to the county education board said that Garbatulla Sub-County had two of its schools elevated while Merti and Isiolo central got three and five respectively.
He said previously Merti Sub-County did not have any extra or county school resulting in many children joining schools in Meru County.
He admitted biting shortage of teachers especially in rural areas adding his office and TSC were working on how best to address the issue. He said in the meantime the available staff would be equitably distributed to all schools.
