Ten arrested for incitement at Malaba

The  Busia  County  Security team has arrested 10 people in connection with barricading the exit point of Malaba Border post to Uganda.

Speaking to the press in his office on Wednesday, the Busia County Commissioner (CC), Joseph Kanyiri  said that driving licenses of the respective drivers have also been cancelled.

“They  will be taken to court and charged with obstruction and economic sabotage,” he said, adding that they will serve as example to other law breakers.

Kanyiri  reiterated that the government is ready and more than willing to solve the challenges facing citizens through existing channels.

“There are proper channels of addressing these grievances by the government and acts of lawlessness is unacceptable,” he said.

He disclosed that the stalemate has been unlocked and the team expects normalcy to resume within three or four days.

The CC further said that truck drivers need to understand traffic rules explaining that trucks ferrying petroleum products should not park on the road for more than 15 minutes as they risk exploding in case of a fire.

“We know the inciters and we will hunt for them and ensure that they face the law,” he said.

Kanyiri  stated that truck drivers had complained over delays in testing and relaying results for Covid-19 among other grievances.

He  said traffic flow at the border has been controlled and about 10 kilometres stretch jam along the road cleared by early morning.
