Police and officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations(DCI) in Webuye have seized electronic accessories worth Sh 800,000, suspected to have been stolen from the residents.
The police officers have also arrested a retired teacher who was found in possession of the items in his home at Mihuu village within Bungoma East Sub-county.
Confirming the arrest, Bungoma East Police Commander, Valarian Obore, said his officers, acting on a tip- off from members of the public, laid an ambush and conducted a search at the suspect’s house where they found the items and arresting him.
“We managed to recover electric cables belonging to the Kenya Power (KPLC), iron boxes, computer keyboards, tv screens, laptops, solar panels, cameras, iPhones and gas cylinders,” said the police boss.
Obore urged residents of Webuye and its environs who have lost any electronic items to avail themselves at the Webuye Police Station and identify them.
At the same time,the Sub-county Police Commander said that the suspect is believed to be working with a syndicate that has been breaking into residents’ shops and their homes and robbing them while waylaying and mugging some late in the evenings.
He warned that his officers are on alert and they won’t hesitate to take action on individuals engaging in criminal activities by robbing residents their hard earned sweat.
Obore called upon members of the public to feel free and share with police any information that will lead to more arrests assuring them that such information will be treated with confidentiality.
“We suspect that this man has also been buying stolen items from suspected thieves,” he added.
The suspect will be arraigned in court once the police are through with the investigation.
