Take over the management of the schools

Laikipia County Development Implementation Coordination Committee (CDICC) has raised concern over the management of schools in Solio settlement in Laikipia Central Sub County.
Almost three years since the settlement scheme was administratively handed over to Laikipia County from Nyeri County, the schools located in the area were still managed by the later.
The handing over of the two locations in the settlement scheme was witnessed by the then Devolution Cabinet Secretary (CS) Mwangi Kiunjuri, the then Laikipia Commissioner Chege Mwangi and Kieni East Deputy County Commissioner James Chacha in September, 2016.
The directive to hand over the scheme to Laikipia County was given by the national government after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) said Solio is in Laikipia County.
Bahati and Mathingira locations were initially being administered by Nyeri County due to the fact that the squatters who were allocated land in the settlement scheme in 2009 were from Nyeri.
While discussing the progress of digital learning during their meeting this week, the CDICC members felt that the Ministry of Education and the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) offices in Laikipia County should be in charge of all education matters in all parts of the County.
Laikipia County Commissioner Onesmus Kyatha, who is the Chair of the CDICC, noted that it did not augur well when the settlement scheme which is administratively in his area was being offered other services by another County.
During the meeting held at the County National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) boardroom, the CC pointed out that there out to be harmonious takeover of the schools.
He asked the Principal Secretary (PS) Ministry of Education to relinquish the schools’ management to Laikipia County.
The CDICC asked Laikipia County Director of Education Susan Murerwa and her TSC counterpart Loice Murrey and the CC to take action and ensure the management of the schools was handed over to Laikipia.
