Police are pursuing suspected armed cattle rustlers who stole livestock near Bank Quarters area in Saku Constituency on Saturday.
The rustlers who were reportedly armed with AK 47 rifles took away 30 heads of cattle.
Marsabit Central acting Deputy County Commissioner Samuel Gichohi said a contingent of security personnel dispatched to the area immediately the incident was reported were pursuing the criminals and recover the stolen animals.
Gichohi added that the operation aims at recovering the illegal firearms that the rustlers were reported to be in possession of.
The deputy county commissioner appealed to members of the public to assist in apprehending the criminals by passing over useful information to the relevant authorities.
He reiterated the government’s resolve to get rid of illicit firearms in wrong hands in order to sanitize the area from banditry.
The rustlers used the illegal guns to scare off the defenseless herders before driving away the livestock into Mt. Marsabit forest.
Nobody was injured during the incident.
It is believed that the attackers took advantage of a downpour to execute their mission in the area which is in the outskirts of Marsabit town.
