A cholera alert has been issued in Homa Bay County after 12 people reportedly showed signs of the disease.
Homa Bay County Executive Committee Member for Health (CECM) Rosslyn Omolo said the suspected cases were reported in three villages of West Kasipul ward in Kasipul Constituency.
The affected villages include Kokelo and Kasire in Kodera North location as well as Nyimbi in Konuong’a location.
Omolo said that the patients were rushed to Ragwe Dispensary in West Kasipul after developing stomach pains, diarrhea and vomiting.
She said that they were putting measures in place to manage the disease including contact tracing of other people in the community.
Omolo asked residents to be on high alert in prevention of the disease by drinking clean and treated water, washing hands regularly and eating well cooked food.
The County Referral Hospital Chief Executive Officer Peter Ogolla said that they are ready with isolation tents for handling patients with the disease.
“We must understand that cholera can be fatal and patients are encouraged to seek medication as fast as possible,” Ogolla said.
