Suspected cattle rustlers kill two people in Marsabit

Two people have reportedly been shot dead in a cattle raid at Songa location, Saku Constituency in Marsabit County.

The unknown number of armed raiders also drove away with 192 heads of cattle in the Sunday afternoon incident.

Marsabit County Commissioner (CC), Paul Rotich, said those killed included a 12-year-old student and a herdsman aged 28.

Rotich said the attackers also killed four animals that were caught by stray bullets suspected to have been aimed at the victims.

The County Commissioner said that a contingent of security personnel was dispatched to the area immediately the attack was reported and were pursuing the raiders.

He warned that those still engaging in the outlawed cattle rustling practice would be dealt with decisively. Rotich said local residents were collaborating with the security personnel in tracking down the attackers in an effort to recover the stolen livestock.

The incident took place barely hours after Eastern Regional Commissioner, Isaiah Nakoru, left Marsabit after a three-day security meeting with local government security agents who included Chiefs and their Assistants.
