Mandera Court has ordered police to continue holding a suspected Al-Shabaab terrorist in their custody for 14 more days to allow for more investigation.
Mohamed Muktar Wardere, will remain in police custody, following a request by PC Elijah Nakeel, an investigating officer in the case. PC Nakeel stated that due to the wide scope and complexity of the investigation, more time is required to exploit all avenues of investigation.
Mohamed was arrested on 8th June 2021, at Rhamu Referral Hospital in Mandera North Sub- County.
He was taken to the Referral Hospital after he was evacuated from the scene of terrorist attack which occurred on Monday this week between Olla and Sarman, whereas he was not a passenger in either of the attacked buses and could not account for his presence at the scene of the attack.
Investigation officer added that the respondent’s nationality is unknown and hence he prays for more time to confirm from Olla and Sarman local administration, security agencies and general public his family background.
Intelligence from the ground indicates that Mohamed Muktar Wardere is a member of Al-Shabaab terrorist group.
His mobile phone will be forwarded to ATPU Nairobi LAB for analysis. Next mention will be 25th June 2021.
