Suspect to spend more days in custody

A  suspect  who shot and murdered a former police officer at Poly View estate in Kisumu on Sunday will spend seven days behind bars pending an autopsy on the deceased.

Daniel  Jaoko reportedly shot Peter  Otieno who operated a matatu business at 5 am  after the two argued over parking.

Otieno  who  was leaving for duty found his Nissan Matatu blocked by Jaoko’s car and pleaded with him to pull over before the gun drama ensued.

Jaoko  who  immediately fled the scene turned himself in at Nyamasaria Police Station from where he was transferred to Kondele Police station.

Police  recovered his firearm loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition. A search in the suspect’s house recovered an additional 42 bullets.

Eliab  Njehia, the  investigations officer   on Monday told  the Winam Court  Senior Resident Magistrate (SRM), Jocelyn Mitei that a postmortem on the deceased was yet to be done to aid the police with investigations.

He  asked the court to allow the suspect to be remanded at Kondele Police station for fourteen days to allow for further investigations.

However, the magistrate ruled that the accused be remanded for seven days before the matter is mentioned on 26th August 2019.
