A suspect who shot and murdered a former police officer at Poly View estate in Kisumu on Sunday will spend seven days behind bars pending an autopsy on the deceased.
Daniel Jaoko reportedly shot Peter Otieno who operated a matatu business at 5 am after the two argued over parking.
Otieno who was leaving for duty found his Nissan Matatu blocked by Jaoko’s car and pleaded with him to pull over before the gun drama ensued.
Jaoko who immediately fled the scene turned himself in at Nyamasaria Police Station from where he was transferred to Kondele Police station.
Police recovered his firearm loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition. A search in the suspect’s house recovered an additional 42 bullets.
Eliab Njehia, the investigations officer on Monday told the Winam Court Senior Resident Magistrate (SRM), Jocelyn Mitei that a postmortem on the deceased was yet to be done to aid the police with investigations.
He asked the court to allow the suspect to be remanded at Kondele Police station for fourteen days to allow for further investigations.
However, the magistrate ruled that the accused be remanded for seven days before the matter is mentioned on 26th August 2019.
