Industry Principal Secretary Dr. Juma Mukhwana has faulted affinity for foreign goods as the main reason why millions of Kenyan youth are unemployed.
Dr. Mukhwana said Kenya imports 80 percent of goods used in the country, spelling doom to many young Kenyans who would have gotten employment in the manufacturing sector.
“Every time you import a product that would otherwise have been made in Kenya, you are creating employment for someone in a foreign nation,” he said.
The PS made the remarks when he presided over the official opening of Kenley Medical Centre clinic in Rongai.
He at the same time advised the youth not to be possessed with white collar jobs, but to go for skills which will guarantee them jobs even outside the country.
“If you have the right skills, there is nowhere in the world that you will fail to secure jobs,”he added.
The PS announced that the government was working on sound labour policies which will guide Kenyans working in the diaspora.
Speaking at the event, the Director of Kenley Medical Centre Dr. Brian Okumu urged Kenyans to go for regular body checkup, warning that many chronic diseases become manifest after taking root in the body for many years.
