Four students from Kyanguli Boys Secondary School have been charged before a Machakos court with attempting to burn a dormitory.
Appearing before Resident magistrate Nelly Kenei Tuesday, the suspects were charged that on July 12, 2019 while within the school premises they attempted to burn a latrine and a dormitory. The offence is in contravention to section 33(a) of the penal code.
The court had earlier ordered an age assessment to be carried out on the suspects. The assessment revealed that one of the suspect was indeed aged 20.
The suspects however denied the charges and were each released on a personal bond of Sh100, 000. The case will be mentioned on July 25, 2019.
Last week, eight other students from St George’s Katheka High school in Mwala Sub County appeared in another Machakos court charged with attempting to burn a school dormitory.
The suspects who included six girls and two boys had appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Evans Keago, where they denied the charges.
They were charged that on July 5, 2019 they allegedly attempted to set ablaze a dormitory nicknamed Malawi.
They were also accused of burning five mattresses and bedding worth sh25, 000 during the Friday night incident.
Each of the suspects was released on a Sh50, 000 bond with a surety of a similar amount or Sh20, 000 cash bail.
Keago similarly ordered a lawyer be sought to represent the students during subsequent hearings of the case.
About two weeks ago, Machakos Boys students were sent home after they allegedly burned a dormitory for the second time in a span of less than two months.
