Students acquitted

Four Nanyuki High school students facing charges of attempting to set ablaze a building have been acquitted by a Nanyuki court.
While acquitting the four students,Nanyuki Principal Magistrate Waititu Gichimu said he took the decision after the school administration indicated that it had forgiven the suspects.
“In the spirit of forgiveness, the school Board of Management has no interest in pursuing this case. The boys’ parents have been reminded that their children need guidance and prayers,” read in part letter presented in court by school Principal Oliver Munishi, seeking to have the case dropped.
The four were charged that on the night of September 22, 2017, they attempted to set ablaze a building in the school. They however had pleaded not guilty, and each of them had been released on a Sh50, 000 cash bail.
Parents of the students approached the school administration seeking an out of court settlement through reconciliation and forgiveness, hence the hearing of the matter never commenced.
They told the school principal that their sons who have since been transferred from the school were remorseful and the case pending in court was affecting their sons.
The magistrate acquitted them under Section 87 (a) of the Penal Code.
