Stolen mosquito nets worth Sh 398, 000 recovered

The Police have recovered a batch of stolen nets in Nyando Sub-county that is suspected to be part of a consignment that were stolen from Nyang’ande and Rabuor health facilities recently.

Confirming the breakthrough, the Kisumu County Police Commandant, Samuel Anampiu, said Police at Obunga in Kisumu relied on intelligence and raided a woman’s house and recovered 19 bales of the stolen nets. Each bale contains 50 nets worth Sh.400 each.

Over 17,000 nets were stolen at the public health facilities and the police have been conducting investigations to unearth the culprits.

The woman behind the theft saga has been identified as Mercy Awino Ochola, with police investigations now ongoing and the suspects expected to be arraigned before the courts in due course.

Hardly a week has passed by after similar theft of nets happened at the facilities with residents now decrying the trend and demanding that stern action be taken against those culpable for the crimes.
