Women battling breast cancer have been challenged to reject stigmatization associated with the disease and instead go public and share their predicament for assistance.
These sentiments were shared during a cancer sensitization forum at Magena Town in Bomachoge Borabu Sub County, Kisii led by the County Governor’s spouse, May Arati, and nominated Members of the County Assembly.
The participants were advised to stop viewing breast cancer as ‘a death sentence’ and instead address the risk factors of the disease such as lack of exercise, staying overweight as well alcohol use.
The women leaders noted that, if detected early, breast cancer can be medically treated and managed.
This comes even as statistics in the Country indicate that 80 percent of the cases of breast cancer are detected mainly in women from the age bracket of over 50.
Nominated MCA Lilian Gor urged women suffering from the condition to turn up for medication and utilize the proposed Cancer Centre once it is established in the County.
Gor decried the low attendance of men at the forum saying they are also affected by various types of cancer.
