State told to curb runaway insecurity

A section of community leaders in Kisumu County have called for the speedy formation of vigilante or community security groups to help spruce up matters security that they decried has deteriorated in most villages in the county.

Led by Kajulu Member of the County Assembly, Mr. Benson Adega, the residents decried alarming insecurity, especially at Mamboleo, where they noted that theft and gangster activities had hit an all-time high.

“The worsening insecurity situation in Kisumu is now a matter of great concern for all the stakeholders, especially the way robbers attacked and killed after looting an MPESA shop, yet what is astounding is that this theft occurred hardly 300 metres from the nearest police post,” lamented Adega.

Adega has since appealed to the police boss as well as PS Interior Dr. Raymond Omollo to urgently and strongly come and flex their muscles and stem the runaway crime and robbery wave that is currently sweeping most parts of Kisumu County.

He at the same time called on the members of the provincial administration to form vigilante groups as a way of reigning in on the runaway insecurity that has struck Kisumu County, pointing out that there is no way the helpless residents can respond to gun-wielding robbers and thieves.
