State to use force to evacuate people living in flood-prone areas

Narok county Commissioner (CC) Kipkech Lotiatia has said that the state will employ force to evacuate people living in areas prone to floods and mudslides if they don’t heed the government’s directives to move to safe grounds during this flooding season.

Speaking at Sarova lodge in Maasai Mara, the county commissioner reiterated the government’s commitment to use force to move people who reside adjacent to rivers that are flooded and other areas that are prone to floods and mudslides.

Lotiatia urged the residents to be vigilant and to take necessary precautions to protect lives and property.

The CC also urged the tourist camps that are located adjacent to rivers that are likely to flood to evacuate to avoid the loss of lives and property.

The County commissioner also issued a warning to those operating businesses or living within Narok town to be vigilant since the dams located in Nkareta and Olopito area in Narok north sub county are likely to break their banks since an overflow has already been identified.

The residents were notified to use the emergency Toll-Free line:0800722984 in case of an emergency.
