The government requires at least Sh13 billion to complete and operationalize the Kakamega Level 6 Hospital that would be used as a referral health facility in Western region.
Health Cabinet Secretary Dr. Deborah Barasa assured that the national government will support the Level 6 Hospital, following a presidential directive.
She said at least Sh3 billion will be spent on completing construction of the facility and a further Sh10billion for equipping and hiring of staff.
Speaking in Malava, Dr. Barasa announced that the government will also establish a regional cancer Centre in Kakamega, which will be completed by next year.
Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula said that completion of the Level 6 Hospital will lead to improved healthcare services in the entire western region, since it would be the main government referral hospital for nearby counties.
“I have seen your commitment that you will ensure completion of level 6 hospital. I am grateful that we are fixing this issue through the next budget,” he added.
Once completed, the 750-capacity referral hospital will provide employment to over 4500 residents.
