The State Department of Broadcasting and Telecommunications has embarked on community engagement aimed at raising awareness on Covid-19 pandemic.
The two day drive that commenced Friday involves public address sensitization, targeting eight counties considered to be at high risk of infections.
The counties include Nairobi, Kisumu, Mombasa, Kajiado, Migori, Siaya, Kwale and Kilifi.
The focus of the public sensitization campaign aims at increasing awareness and educating the public on government interventions and protocols put in place to contain the spread of Covid-19.
Speaking in Kisumu while flagging of the team Friday, Kisumu Deputy County Commissioner John Cheruiyot said while the area had not recorded even a single case of Coronavirus infection, there was need to continue sensitization the community on government protocols put in place to contain the virus.
He said the government was focusing on informal settlements where majority of the residents are not able to maintain social distance.
“There is still a problem in those areas, hence the need to continue engaging the residents on the same” he added.
The deputy county commissioner said most residents and businesses had adhered to government regulations, including putting on of face masks, maintaining social distance in public transport and washing of their hands.
During the tour, members of the public continued to demand from government to provide them with free facemasks and sanitizers.by George Kaiga
