Starehe alumni cycle for a course

Some alumni of Starehe Boys centre are cycling over 1,000 kilometres from Busia to Mombasa to raise funds for the two learning institutions of Starehe Boys` and Girls` centres.
Samuel Kibikoan who is an old boy from Starehe and founder of Gokibiko charity cycle, said they cycle for at least 1,000 km from Busia to Mombasa each year to raise funds to help needy students in those two institutions..
“We hope to raise Sh.5 million that will help some of these students that are unable to pay for their school fees and meet other school related needs that require financing,” he said.
The group of cyclists managed to raise Sh, 200,000 in Narok Saturday.
The contribution which was made by Narok County Government and presented to the cycling team by Chief of Staff Fred Ntekerei, is expected to assist in funding at least five students from each school.
He was very thankful for the contribution made by Narok County and hopes that they will meet their set target at the end of their journey.
Another alumni, Fredrick Njoroge and also a former beneficiary of the program added that Starehe has benefited over 10,400 students since its establishment and continues to do so.
“I personally have benefited from this program and through this kind of initiatives many more students shall continue to benefit,” he added.
A parent of a form four candidate at Starehe Boys`centre, Peter Njenga said he joined the group to see bright students around the country able to achieve their dreams.
“As the years go by brighter students from poor backgrounds continue to emerge and are unfortunately unable to join secondary schools due to poverty. That’s why I joined this group to support them,” he said
So far Narok County has had 27 students study at Starehe Boys` and all have pledged to contribute towards the two learning institutions` wellbeing. Willing residents of Narok have been requested to make contributions via the groups paybill number949494 Account Gokibiko.
