A Non-Governmental Organisation has begun a sensitisation forum in Migori County on the upcoming delimitation process by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in a bid to ensure peace and cohesion during the process.
According to Migori IEBC official, Ken Okoth, the forum which brought together IEBC stakeholders across the County will ensure the community gets the right and accurate information on the redrawing and drawing of the Constituency, and Ward boundaries to dispel rumours that may disrupt peace in the community.
Okoth urged members of the public to attend such forms when called upon to help them get the right and accurate information in making the rightful decisions.
Omole Opinya, an officer from the Rural Aids Prevention and Development Organisation (RAPADO) said that they had begun the process with community leaders who will in turn help them disseminate the information down at the community level.
The forum comes amidst tension in the County that has been brought by misinformation regarding the upcoming boundary delimitation; with the worst case being a heated border dispute between Migori and Narok Counties that has led to loss of lives and property in recent times.
Opinya said that the commission will continue organising the forums in the coming days across the County in preparation for the delimitation process to enable it to give accurate information to the public.
