Stakeholders in Trans Mara have hailed President Uhuru Kenyatta’s initiative to revive ‘Kuungana, Kufanya Kusaidia Kenya (4K) Clubs in schools.
This comes as sub county committees to spearhead the implementation of the initiative in Trans Mara West and Trans Mara South sub counties were formed on Monday.
Speaking during the launch of the committees in Kilgoris, Sub County Agricultural Officer manning Trans Mara South and Trans Mara West Stephen Omondi welcomed the President’s directive which will see 4K clubs revived in schools.
Omondi termed the move a noble course relevant with the current Competence Based Curriculum being implemented in the country.
Omondi added that if properly initiated, food and nutritional security will be enhanced bringing to an end food begging.
“With all the resources and manpower, the country has, it’s a shame that some parts of the nation still depend on relief food. However, with the government’s effort to revive the 4K clubs and the current CBC program being implemented, relief food will be a thing of the past,” he said.
Trans Mara South Deputy County Commissioner George Onyango singled out stakeholder cooperation as a key component to the success of the initiative. ” This program will only be successful if all of us were to embrace and own it,” Onyango rallied members.
The area Sub County Education Officer Chrispine Omondi urged schools in the region to do preliminaries as soon as possible in preparation for the role out of the program.
The committees formed will be chaired by the two deputy county commissioners assisted by the sub county agricultural officers in the two regions.
Other members are heads of departments from line ministries, selected non-governmental organizations and the county government.
Among other duties, the committees have been tasked to ensure that 4K clubs are revived in schools in the region by conducting stakeholder networking and collaboration, coordination of sub county presidential award schemes, resource mobilization and publicity.
