Split diocese for effective services, faithful urge

Some faithful from ACK Diocese of Mbeere are agitating for the split of the diocese citing the vastness of area of its jurisdiction.
The faithful who met at ACK Kiritiri in Mbeere affirmed their stand saying the diocese was too big hence needed to be split to improve service delivery and end marginalization.
Led by Lay Canon John Njiru who is the ACK steward coordinator at Mayori Parish, the faithful said that they have not been receiving the necessary services from the diocese and its split would ensure they get the necessary services.
“The diocese should be split into two dioceses that is ;Mbeere South diocese and Mbeere North diocese,” noted Canon Njiru.
They noted that the diocese which is headed by Bishop Moses Masamba has 62 parishes with 239 churches and they argue that it has not been easy traversing them in a year contributing to poor service delivery.
“It has not been easy for the bishop to go round to all these churches and people are suffering, if there will be a split to have two dioceses in Mbeere then services will be delivered equally,” noted Canon Njiru.
Canon Njiru’s sentiments were echoed by Pius Njiru who said that they have already mobilized some parishes not to pay the quota to the diocese until their proposal is acted upon.
They accused Bishop Moses Masamba of favouring Mbeere North by initiating more than ten projects since he was installed bishop leaving out the South.
“Mbeere South contributes Sh 21 million against Sh 9 milion which Mbeere North contributes annually, but now all projects are being channeled to Mbeere North, this is unfair,” noted Canon Njiru.
Canon Njiru advocated for the change of ACK constitution to have the term of serving as Bishop reduced to 10 years and also the bishops to be given transfers for change instead of the current term of service until retirement.
However Bishop Masamba has been advocating for members to embrace dialogue whenever there are pertinent issues.
