Son endorsed to inherit late senator’s seat

The family of the late Garissa senator Mohamed Yussuf Haji has endorsed his second born son Abdul Mohamed Yussuf as the aspirant for the Garissa county senatorial seat in the election slated for 18th May 2021.

The family spokesperson (Rtd) deputy chief of general staff general Bashir Yussuf Haji has said they have endorsed Abdul Mohamed Yussuf Haji to take over the elective position left by his father.

Lt. General Hajji said the matter will be discussed at all the sub clans to endorse Abdul to take over the senatorial position following the recent death of his father.

However, he appealed to residents to consider sending Abdul to the Senate unopposed to enable him complete the job his deceased father aspired to complete for the remaining period of the term.

Already members of the Samawathal community have endorsed the proposed candidate, while calling on other communities living in Garissa especially the Abdwaq and Aulian clans support Abdul, as a show of respect to his deceased father, who selflessly served the county and the country in general in various capacities.

Meetings to popularize Abdul have been scheduled from next week. He is an accomplished businessman, who appears to have been properly mentored by his late father and holds a Masters degree Birmingham University in the United Kingdom.

He was at the forefront of savings lives during the Westgate terrorist in Nairobi in 2013 and was later on awarded by President Uhuru Kenyatta for his heroic act of humanity.
