A KDF soldier attached to Kotile Military base in Ijara sub county shot himself accidentally in the leg while transacting business at a Safaricom Mpesa shop.
Colleagues say the soldier’s gun was loaded but he had forgotten to lock the pin and he accidentally shot his foot causing tension in town.
He was with his other colleagues at the Mpesa shop when the incident happened.
The injured soldier was rushed to Masalani sub county hospital for treatment.
Police in Masalani confirmed the incident and cautioned officers to ensure their guns pins are on safe mode when coming to the town centre.
“It was by a stretch of luck the gun was facing downwards otherwise the firearm could have caused a lot of damage to the public.”
The affected soldier is in stable condition.
