Six more people have tested positive for Coronavirus disease, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 197.
Of the six new cases who were confirmed out of 766 samples tested in the last 24 hours, five of them are Kenyans while one is a foreign national Five (5) are males and one (1) is a female.
In a press release on Sunday on the Coronavirus situation in the country and the response measures being undertaken to contain the pandemic, Health Cabinet Secretary, Mutahi Kagwe said the spread of the fresh cases with regard to their counties of residence were Nairobi had four while Mombasa and Siaya had one cases each.
“Two (2) have a history of recent foreign travel from the Middle East, while one (1) recently traveled from Mombasa. The other three (3) cases have no history of recent travel. The six (6) are aged between 25 and 59 years”, the CS confirmed.
He further noted that Five (5) of the cases are from mandatory quarantine centers, while one (1) was picked by the surveillance teams.
Over the same period, Kagwe also confirmed that one (1) more patient was discharged from hospital, bringing to 25 the total number of persons who have recovered from the disease and discharged.
Unfortunately, the CS also confirmed one death in Siaya and this now brings a total number of Coronavirus deaths in the country to eight (8).
Contact tracing is on-going, Kagwe said adding that so far a total of 2,160 contacts have been monitored, out of which 1,660 have been discharged.
Five hundred (500) contacts, he added were being followed at the moment and that so far a total of 7,449 samples have been tested since the onset of the disease in the country.
“We thank all Kenyans for their continued support and adherence to the COVID-19 mitigation measures that we have put in place. However, we also want to remind our citizens not to relent until we succeed in completely containing the spread of the virus in our country”, CS Kagwe said.
According to WHO, globally in the last 24 hours 89,657 new cases have been confirmed bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 1, 610, 909. In the African Region 551 cases have been reported in the last 24 hours bringing the number of confirmed cases to 9,350
