Police on mobile patrol along Garissa –Madogo road Tuesday arrested six people of Ethiopian origin after stopping and inspecting passengers of a bus plying the road destined for Nairobi from Mandera County.
Confirming the incident, Tana River County Police Commander Mr. Fredrick Ochieng said the six aliens were arrested after search because they did not have identification documents.
Speaking to the press in his office Wednesday, Ochieng claimed that some politicians are smuggling foreigners mainly from Somali and Ethiopia during this census period in order to inflate the population of their respective Wards and constituencies.
The police Commander said the six suspects are being held at Garissa police station and they will be taken to court immediately the investigations are completed.
He also called on the area residents to report any suspicious characters to the police for interrogation to establish their motive of being in a foreign country without valid documents.
