Siaya youths to earn over Sh 180 million through Kazi Mtaani

Youths  in  Siaya County  will earn over Sh. 180 million in the next six months courtesy of the national government’s ‘Kazi Mtaani’ programme, area County Commissioner (CC), Michael ole Tialal has said.

Tialal said that the county will recruit 3,098 youths to work within select communities in the county where they will be tasked with the responsibility of general cleaning, clearing bushes and unblocking drainages.

He  was speaking at the IEBC hall in Siaya town on Tuesday during the inaugural meeting of the programme’s county implementation committee.

Tialal  said that Kazi Mtaani will be open to youths between 18 – 35 years each who will work for 11 consecutive days and resume after taking a short break.

He  told members of the committee to ensure that only deserving youths are recruited, adding that opportunity must be given to all youths without discrimination.

“We must not allow nepotism, favouritism and discrimination to mar the exercise,” he said adding that the recruitment must be above board.

The  CC  said the success of the programme will be determined by how the recruitment officers perform their task devoid of corruption.

“Ensure that only those who are ready to work for the required period and have the required gadgets such as personal protective equipment and Mpesa registered line under their names are recruited,” he told the meeting which was also attended by six Deputy County Commissioners (DCCs) from the sub counties.

Tialal said that no house hold will be allowed to produce two youths into the programme, adding that priority will be given vulnerable households.

He urged National government administration officials, led by the DCCs to ensure no politics is introduced to the programme.
