Residents of Musutsu village, Lumakanda location in Lugari Sub County woke to a shocking spectacle on Saturday morning after one of them found her cow slaughtered and its tongue cut off.
Diana Afandi said she heard commotion outside at about 2am and when she peeped through the window, she could not see her cow, forcing her to get out and look for it before she stumbled upon its carcass across the fence.
She said the cow which was worth Sh.70,000 had a slit throat and the tongue removed leaving the rest of the body at the scene.
“The cow was seven months in-calf and I cannot tell the motive behind this inhumane act,” she lamented.
She said the animal was her main source of income where proceeds from milk sales went towards purchasing her family’s basic needs.
The incident attracted tens of villagers into Afandi’s compound with most unable to comprehend the motive behind it while others linked it to superstitions.
Kenneth Ayodi, a neighbour, has called on security organs in Lugari Sub County to launch investigations into the matter and step up night patrols in the area.
