Sh7 million water project to benefit Port Victoria hospital

The Lake Victoria North Water Works Development Agency (LVNWWDA) in collaboration with the County Government of Busia has embarked on the construction of a 50,000 litres pressed elevated steel tank with a view to ensure smooth supply of water at Port Victoria.

The Sh 7 million project which entails installation of surface pump capable of pumping 50 cubic litres of water per hour at Marenga station is expected to improve the supply of water in the area which has gone without the precious commodity for the past five months.

Speaking during the site handing over to the contractor on Wednesday, the Director of LVNWWDA Medriatrice Wangira said that the project will not only address the challenges at the hospital facility but also the local community.

“I have also talked with the LVNWWDA board on the need to return the Water Treatment plant to assist in purification of water,” she said.

LVNWWDA Technical Manager for Community Development Nelly Mukoko said the project will be completed within two and a half months.

Busia County Chief Officer for Water (Lower Region) George Ekisa affirmed that Port Victoria health facility and its environs had experienced challenges occasioned by frequent pump breakdown.

The Agency also donated a 5,000 litre water tank to complement storage services at the hospital.
