Over 3,800 residents of Nangina village in Samia Sub County of Busia County are set to benefit from a Sh7 million water project for domestic, institutional and livestock use.
This follows a bilateral partnership between the County Government of Busia and National Government through the Lake Victoria North Water Works Development Agency (LVNWWDA) that saw the drilling of a borehole with 7,000 litres per hour pumping capacity.
The exercise entailed drilling of the borehole and construction components including supply and installation of 50,000 litres pressed steel tank on elevated steel tower, rising main from the borehole to elevated tank, normal water kiosk and distribution line to water kiosk.
Apart from Nangina village, other areas which have benefited from this project in Busia County include; Malaba, Namboboto, Bukhalalire Water Supply, Bumutiru among others.
Speaking in Nangina during the official launching of the project, the Deputy Governor of Busia County Moses Mulomi appreciated the LVNWWDA for their continued support of ensuring that they have access to clean water for use and the contractor for making it successful within a short period of time rather than the proposed 6months.
“Our partnership continues to bear fruits with two other boreholes earmarked for drilling and subsequent distribution at Onyunyur and Nambuku,” he said, urging the agency to consider other areas depending on the resource envelope.
Busia Water Executive, Dr. Isaac Alukwe said that other solar powered boreholes LVNWWDA helped drill in the county include Malaba, Namboboto, Okame and Mungatsi TTIs, Bukhalarire, Bumutiru and Bunyala Model, adding that Nambuku Health Centre borehole and the planned one at Busia County Referral Hospital will cost a total of Sh10 million.
The CECM said the County Government will offer technical support on the Nangina projects, urging area leadership to stop politicising it, but instead get a good team that is all inclusive to manage the project.
LVNWWDA/CRVWWDA have initiated many water projects in the county including the Sh1 Billion Malaba Sewerage and water project affirmed Dr. Alukwe.
